S.I. MET SERVICE MAINTAINS TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING FOR COUNTRY

The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service maintains its tropical cyclone warning for Temotu and other provinces around the country.

In this morning’s update, the MET Office warns, severe Tropical Cyclone Pam has been upgraded to Category Five and located at approximately 160 nautical miles South-Southeast of Tikopia and 120 nautical miles East of Santo Island, Vanuatu.

It adds, the cyclone has picked up speed and is now cruising at around nine knots.

The Weather office further warns, storm force winds of up to 63 knots are expected to be easing over Anuta, Fatutaka and Tikopia.

It says the rest of Temotu Province expect gale force winds of up to 47 knots.

Meanwhile, the remaining provinces and Islands across the country will expect winds of up to 25 knots.

MET office says heavy swells are expected over Temotu, Makira and North Malaita waters.

It strongly advice people to be vigilant as the tropical cyclone can pose threats to lives and properties.
