Solomon Islands will commemorate the 73rd Anniversary of the landing of the United States Marines on Guadalcanal, August 7th 1942 this Friday in Honiara.

The day-long event will begin with a morning drive to the United States Memorial at Skyline followed by Coastwatchers and Solomon Scouts Memorial and sporadic activities throughout the day.

United States Ambassador to Solomon Islands Walter North and the United States Consular Ms Keithie Saunder invites Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, the Acting Governor General His Excellency Ajilon Nasiu, other government officials and diplomats to the event.

Laying of wreaths in remembering those who serve during the second World War on Guadalcanal and speeches from Prime Minister Sogavare and US Marine Representatives will be held at the Skyline drive.
