Resource Owners in Santa Cruz, Temotu Province have expressed disagreement on the decision by the Provincial Premier Hon. Budley Tauto accommodated a logging company on the Island.

A Nende Constituent Mr. John Chris reports, Xiangling Timber S.I. Limited has logged their forests.

“I speak on behalf of resource owners to say that they totally disagreed with the actions of the provincial head of government because his submission to the provincial executive has been rejected, but he continued to pursue his personal interests and go ahead to grant the license to the company.”

Mr. Chris adds, the resource owners have submitted a 14-day notice-seeking the premier’s explanation on his decision last Monday.

The resource owners are planning to stage a peaceful protest against the premier if he fails to respond.

Meanwhile, Temotu Deputy Premier Hon. Nelson Omar confirmed to SIBC News today the Temotu Provincial Executive has turned down the Xiangling Timber S.I. Limited application to operate in the provincial boundary.

Hon. Omar said as the Deputy Premier he is not aware of any decision to issue Xiangling a logging license on Santa Cruz.
