Second suspect still under interrogation

The second suspect wanted for the Easter double homicide at the LGZ building in Honiara is under Police interrogation in Auki, Malaita Province.
Police Commissioner, Matthew Varley, revealed the information in a joint special media conference this afternoon.
He said the suspect was arrested following a police operation.
“There has been an extensive Police operation underway for the past couple of weeks in Malaita and in the early hours of Sunday (yesterday) Police successfully apprehended a second suspect in north Malaita.”
Meanwhile, Director of the Criminal Investigations Department Ian Vavaso said the arrest was made with information received from the community.
“The arrest occurred yesterday following information received from the community and following through with checks in the community that led to the arrest of the suspect after he tried to abscond arrest,” he said
SIBC News is aware the supect is still yet to be formally charged and is under Police questioning in Auki as part of ongoing investigations into the homicide.
