The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry has donated just over $12,000.00 to the San Isidro Training Centre.

Formerly the San Isidro Care Centre, the institution is a vocational centre for children and teenagers who are deaf, dumb or mute.

A press statement from the Chamber yesterday said a team from San Isidro, led by Brother George Van der Zant, received a cheque for $12,000.00 and $100,000.00 at Chamber office in Honiara on Wednesday.

The cheque was handed over to the San Isidro Training Centre Head girl Lilly Sione by the Vice President of SICCI Board, Jeremy Bartlett.

The donation was from an auction of an i-Phone five and a Samsung Galaxy S4 held at an SICCI Business After-5 event co-sponsored by Solomon Telekom and Solomon Oceanic Cable Company.

Meanwhile, responding to the donation and in sign language, San Isidro Training Centre Head girl Lilly Sione said the children are very happy and will always remember those that made the donation when playing in the basketball court which the donation helped build.

Using a sign which was interpreted by a San Isidro teacher, Miss Sione said they want to practise well and make a good team so people can watch and enjoy their games.

The San Isidro Training Centre is an institution that teaches life skills, English, Maths, Christian Education, Arts, Agriculture, Woodwork as well as building and carpentry to students who are deaf, dumb or mute.
