The Leader of Independent Group Dr. Derek Sikua has welcomed but at the same time questioned the initiative by the government to host the TRC consultative meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday 5th February.

The consultative meeting was to evaluate, prioritise and sequence the TRC Final Report Recommendations.

The Independent Office says Dr Sikua acknowledged the government’s commitment to implement the TRC Final Report Recommendations in a meaningful way.

The Independent leader says he is pleased that the Prime Minister has finally woken up to the reality and importance of taking on board the TRC recommendations as the appropriate platform to commence a proper and sustainable rehabilitation program to holistically address the issues of the ethnic tension.

However, he further questioned why the current exercise undertaken by the PMO is only limited to providing workable approaches and key performance indicators for the implementation of those specific recommendations concerning Institutional Reform programs.
