The Solomon Islands National Council of Women (SINCW) has launched its five-year national plan.

President of the Women’s Council, Ella Kauhue told SIBC News in an interview the launching is significant for her organisation.

“Today is a very important day for the National Council of Women, I think we have had a strategic plan in place in the past but all thoses plans were only for one to two years. Now it’s quite special because it’s for five years.”

She adds the launching has placed the Council in a position it needs to carry out its mandated duties in addressing issues.

“It has placed the National Council of Women in a position where it feels that its mandate is to go out and for the National Council of Women to be effective in the objectives like leadership, institutional governance, ending violence againts women in order for the NCW to be effective in those objectives it needs the collaboration of women’s organisations and the Government as well as maybe with the police and also other stakeholders.”

The event was witnessed by the Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast, Assistant Police Commissioner Gabriel Manelusi, women representatives from all provincial women’s councils, and other stakeholders.

SIBC News understands, Oxfam Solomon Islands has supported the Women’s Council to launch its five-year strategic plan.
