Solomon Islands and Saudi Arabia discuss collaboration on addressing climate change impacts, including support for national relocation programme
Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Damukana Sogavare MP has met the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Climate Change envoy, His Excellency, Adel Al-jubeir.
His Excellency Al-jubeir welcomed Prime Minister Sogavare and his delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this week.
The Climate Change envoy emphasized, Saudi Arabia will work collaboratively with Solomon Islands to address climate change, including support for national relocation programme and to explore opportunities for carbon off-set programme drawing from forests and our large ocean space.
His Excellency Al-jubeir also pledge Saudi Arabia’s support to Solomon Islands on other areas of mutual interest.
Both countries acknowledge and exchange views on advancing vision and aspiration towards accelerating climate action, ocean governance and possible opportunities in driving sustainable development initiatives.
Prime Minister Sogavare in his response, expresses sincere appreciation to His Excellency Al-jubeir for the opportunity to meet in person and the kind hospitality accorded by the Saudi government, and looks forward to collaborating with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on bilateral programme on climate change.
The PM said, the high level visit to Saudi Arabia is indeed an opportunity for both countries to dialogue and deepen partnership and cooperation.
The Governments of Solomon Islands and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will issue a joint statement at the end of the high level introductory visit.
