Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare says, “cut emissions, just do the right thing, cut your greenhouse gas emissions” to leaders attending the Third Pacific Islands Development Forum PIDF3 Leaders summit in Suva, Fiji this week.

Prime Minister Sogavare made the statement in his contribution to presentations on Climate Change in the Pacific.

Mr Sogavare calls for more measures and strategies so that the Pacific position on climate change is sure-footed ahead of the Paris Conference on climate change later in the year.

He says, he is very concerned with the low global mitigation ambition, which is already evident in some of the submitted Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC), especially from major emitters.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister wishes Pacific negotiators all the best in their  preparatory meetings ahead of the United Nations climate conference in France later this year.

He told  PIDF3 Leaders, in order for the 2015 Paris Agreement to be meaningful, it must be legally binding.

Prime Minister Sogavare join other Pacific leaders, civil society and private sector organisations in the signing of the Pacific Islands Development Forum Charter and the Suva Declaration on Climate Change today.
