SOLOMON ISLANDS JOINED MSG OBSERVERS TO FIJI ELECTIONS

Solomon Islands has joined an observer team from the Melanesian Spearhead Group to observe today’s Election in Fiji.

The Caretaker Government of Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo has selected Mrs Jane Tozaka, an Executive member of the Western Provincial Government to join the MSG Observer Team.

Mrs Tozaka is the wife of the former Member of Parliament for North Vella Lavella, Milner Tozaka, who had chaired the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee.

MSG comprises Melanesian countries- Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Fiji.

The composition of the MSG Observer Team has not been released.

More than 60,000 eligible voters take part in today’s Fiji Polls, the first democratic elections held after the 2006 coup.

SIBC News understands, counting will begin as soon as polling stations are closed this evening.
