Governor General, Sir Frank Kabui, has signed the proclamation for the 2014 National Elections, to be held on Wednesday the 19th of November.

The signing and gazetting of the proclamation will also start a two week nomination process for those intending to contest the polls.

It was signed this morning.

Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Polycarp Haununu has confirmed the election date as Wednesday 19th November, 2014, and that a two week period for nomination of candidates will start tomorrow, Wednesday 8th October.

Speaking today, Mr Haununu said this is a historic election for Solomon Islands as it will use the country’s new, accurate, credible
voters list for the first time.

He adds, he looks forward to seeing the 287, 567 registered voters cast their vote freely and fairly on Election Day.

“Close to midday today we’ve received the gazetted date for the elections and in that gazette the Governor General has proclaimed that 19th November is the election day, so 19th is the polling day for our National Election where people will go to the polls to cast their ballots.”
