Sir Allan Kemakeza has officially tendered his resignation as Speaker of the National Parliament.

The National Parliament Media Unit says according to the constitution, a previous Speaker or Deputy Speaker will replace Sir Allan at the first sitting of the next House, until a new Speaker is elected.

Meanwhile, Sir Allan has told local media he has resigned to contest the Savo-Russell seat.

Sir Allan, who is a former police officer, had served five terms as the Member of Parliament for Savo-Russell, until he lost his seat to Dickson Mua in the 2010 General Elections.

SIBC News understands, a new Speaker will be elected at the first sitting of the next House.
