The South Seas Evangelical Church, SSEC, community in North Malaita are celebrating 120 years of the Gospel’s arrival at Aesa Wanekao since Friday.

Aesa Wanekao is the spot on which local Missionary, Peter Abu’ofa first landed ashore on Malaita with the Gospel on 14th July, 1894.

SIBC’s Malu’u stringer Lensley Kwaimani said the theme for this year’s celebration is “Celebrating God’s Faithfulness and the Impacts of His Power and Restoration in Living on the Promises of God.”

A committee member, Ashley Angitalo outlined the celebration’s program which began last Friday, as reported by Mr Kwaimani.

“He says Friday 11th July was the Orientation day of the program. Saturday 12th July was the program’s opening along with the presentation of the history and the story of how Peter Abu’ofa first arrived with the Gospel in the evening on the same day. Sunday 13th July will be a general service while the final one will be on Monday 14th July, which will be the main celebration.”

Local SSEC churches from Falau in the Lau Mbaelelea constituency to Kofiloko in the Baegu Asfola constituency including some fellowship groups in Honiara attended the celebrations.
