The situation in Suafa, North Malaita has been stabilised since yesterday, confirms the Provincial Police Commander (PPC) for Malaita, Alfred Uiga.

PPC Uiga told SIBC News, according to feedback from police on theground, a reconciliation ceremony between the two opposing parties has happened.

“According to feedback received this morning from police on theground, a reconciliation has occurred yesterday between both parties, involving certain amounts of traditional money and dollars with the total amount yet to be disclosed, and I believe what has happened will gear up towards a peace these communities or the people in Suava have been looking forward to.”

Meanwhile, PPC Uiga explains, a young man is in police custody inrelation to the unfortunate death of another man and subsequent burning down of several homes.

“Investigations regarding the death of the person are continuing andpolice are gearing up to its completion, apart from a young suspectthat was apprehended on Monday and is currently in police custody toassist police investigations. Investigations are going on well; thereare other areas that need patching up, which is why police are stillon the ground.”
