The signing ceremony was held in Gizo between the Western provincial government, the Minister for Provincial Government & Institutional strengthening Hon Rollen Seleso, Western province Premier Hon Billy Veo and the four Ward Development Committee chairpersons.

The MoU signing is the second of its kind. The first signing was in 2021.

The initiative started in 2012 when Hon Tausinga was the Provincial Government Minister brought a Cabinet paper on participatory planning on ward committees.

PS Pirione during the signing said the initiative by Hon Tausinga to allocate funds come from the SIG Support to Constituency Development to separate WDC accounts is a model other MPs should consider.

He said this initiative is Hon Tausinga’s vision when he was the former Minister for Provincial Government, the only MP out of the 50 MPs currently doing this.

Minister of Provincial Government Hon Seloso said Hon Tausinga is the first MP to entrust his WDCs with such a large amount of resources to deliver development projects on behalf of his constituency.

“This is a remarkable effort,” he said.

Minister Seloso said West New Georgia Vonavona has set a benchmark that should be replicated and amplified in all other constituencies.

“West New Georgia Vonavona would surely become a case study for many other constituencies,” Minister Seloso said.
