The sequencing of recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission,TRC, Report is to set a clear direction for their implementation.

Prime Minister Rick Houenipwela told Parliament during Monday’s  Question and Answer session.

Responding to a question on how to deal with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report, Mr Hou said the TRC sequencing and prioritisation report basically provideed a background to the ethnic conflict and the establishment of the TRC.

He said it also provided a clear discussion on the TRC recommendations and prioritise them according to their importance.

“More importantly in order to put these recommendations into perspective, it prioritises and sequences the TRC recommendations according to their importance,” he said.

“The purpose of this prioritization and sequencing undertaking is to ensure there is a clear direction in terms of the implementation of the TRC recommendations by the government of the day. ”

The Prime Minister added, the sequencing report provided a time frame for implementing the TRC recommendations.

“Coupled with that, this report provides an action plan. In that regard it is basically a road map, it gives a precise timeframe in terms of the implementation of the TRC recommendations. It provides a workable strategy going forward. The Government sees it fit and proper to implement the TRC recommendations because of their relationship to the reconciliation, rehabilitation and the need to ensure sustainable peace into the foreseeable future.”
