Two new Judges will join the High Court bench this year.

Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer confirmed their appointment during the legal year opening yesterday.

He says one of the judges is an expatriate who will join the bench next month.

“Towards the end of 2015, we had advertised for the position and a number of applicants were considered a more suitable candidate selected by the Judicial and Legal Sevice Commission. Once his appointment has been formalised, his start date and appointment will be confirmed. In addition, we should also have another new Shaunie judge appointed to assist in the criminal division so I wish also to take this opportunity to thank our Government for its positive support towards the judiciary in this area.”

Sir Albert said these appointments will assist the Court to dispose of its backlog of cases.
