UNESCO has called for greater inclusion of young people in the media as various media organizations around the globe mark World Radio Day today.

Director-General Irina Bokova said she calls for greater social inclusion of the generation under 30 years as this year’s fourth annual World Radio Day focuses on young women and men.

Mrs Bokova says this is relevant as the age group accounts for more than half of the world’s population and underlines the power of radio to contribute to this objective.

Mrs Bokova also called on UNESCO Member States and partners, especially in the world of radio, to rally around this medium and make it a force for social inclusion, intergenerational dialogue and social change.
