Communities in West Rennell have called on responsible authorities to take appropriate actions in removing two barges owned by an Indonesian Mining company Bitang Borneo in Lauagi.

The communities made the call after Bitang Borneo tried to land its machineries, despite the recent revocation of its prospecting license and mining lease.

A prospecting license was already granted to another mining company, the Asia Pacific Investment Development.

Secretary of the West Rennell Land Owners Task Force Dictor Maitaki says, responsible authorities should step in and address the issue.

“The people of West Rennell are very close to each other, so with this kind of conflict it is really impacting the communities there and apart from APID. It is the wish of the communities for police to quickly step in address the situation before it goes out of control.”
