Women’s Day Celebrated

The Solomon Islands has celebrated International Women’s Day today.

Janet Oge, Chairlady and Head of Honiara City Council Women Department, during the occasion said women deserve to be recognized for their hard work and must be upheld and valued as equal members.

Meanwhile, Head of Women’s Development Division within the Ministry of Women, Youth and Children’s Affairs, Jocelyn Tepai, says this event will be a joint effort and collaboration between partner organizations in order to bring attention to women’s great achievements.

This will also provide time and space for women to come together.

The theme for International Women’s Day (8 March) 2020 is: “We are Generation Equality: Access to Equal Rights”.

International Women’s Day is an event celebrated worldwide. It gives an opportunity for women to come together and be recognized, to highlight their positive contributions to society, and to celebrate with the community as equal members.
