The Magistrate Court has sentenced a young man from Malaita Province to 18 months in prison for unlawfully wounding his de-facto partner.

The man Dickson Kwaimani in his twenties pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful wounding in October this year.

During an argument with his partner, he punched and kicked her to the ground at their home and stabbed her on the right lower shoulder with a knife.

The argument broke out after they had drinks at Kokonut Cafe.

The victim was very weak and helpless from the wounds she received from the attack.

The accused later transported her to the National Referral hospital for medical treatment.

Police arrested and charged him.

Principal Magistrate Shephard Lapo took into account the accused’s guilty plea and the fact that he was very young at the time of the offence.

Magistrate Lapo sentenced him to serve 18 months jail time taking into account time already spent in custody.
