Youths in North Malaita are calling on the national government to stand by its promises in terms of national projects for Malaita Province.

Being part of the North Malaita Constituency Youth Congress, the youths made the call saying such national projects would engage young people, which would help to reduce rural-urban migration.

SIBC’s North Malaita stringer, John Andrew Kiri reported the Congress President, Eddie Tatalu Firisua as saying the government should kick start at least one or two national projects in the region.

“The North Malaita Youth Congress President Mr Firisua urged the government, especially any future government or even the current government to seriously consider national projects for Malaita, kick starting at least on or two and not talking about them only. I’ve also
asked youths who left formal education for years and they told me they don’t want to end up in Honiara as it is too expensive to live there.”

SIBC News understands, two areas in the region have been earmarked by the national government for national projects and these are Kadabina and Suava Bay.
