Komate villagers in West Guadalcanal have joined other communities and provinces to support the government’s decision on a limited rearmament of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).

A team from the Ministry of Police, RSIPF and RAMSI travelled to Komate village, where they briefed about 200 members of the local community on the staged limited rearmament project.

A statement from RAMSI said more support was expressed at Komate for the project.

Local people who spoke during the discussions thanked the Government for the rearmament project and also for building the new police postin their community.

The people said they will feel safe when members of the RSIPF are rearmed.

Since community consultations on the staged limited rearmament of the RSIPF began last year, support has been expressed by the Western, Isabel, Makira, Renbel, Guadalcanal and Malaita provincial assembliesand communities as well as organisations in and around Honiara.

The consultation team has also made presentations to several thousand students and youth during the three Youth Markets held in Honiara in April, May and July this year.

The community consultation team hopes to consult with the rest of the provinces in coming months.
