Rennell and Bellona Province has joined the Community Governance and Grievance Management Project following the signing of a participation agreement with the Ministry of Provincial Government and InstitutionalStrengthening.

Renbel Premier Collin Tesuatai and the Minister for Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, Hon. Dudley Kopu recently signed the agreement.

A statement from the World Bank office in Honiara said the project will employ community officers to help chiefs, elders and church, women, youth and community leaders to resolve disputes within communities.

Hon. Kopu said the project will help communities manage their own disputes and problems while strengthening the links between them and the government.

The project is implemented by the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS) in partnership with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).

The project will start in Rennell and Bellona and Makira Ulawa provinces.

Makira Ulawa province has signed its participation agreement with the Minister during its recent Second Appointed Day, celebrated last week.

The World Bank statement said two more provinces are expected to join after 2016.
