19 year old arrested for Capital Park armed robbery

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force have arrested a 19-year-old male suspect in relation to the armed robbery at Capital Park, East of Honiara yesterday.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander Central Police Station, Superintendent Barry Rush Saukiu said the suspect was arrested at Point Cruz area and is currently under police custody for further dealings.

PPC Saukiu said Police also confiscated a homemade modified gun with 3 bullets which police allegedly believe to be used during the arm robbery.

Mr Saukiu said other four suspects escaped police during the arrest at the Point Cruz area but they are still working on information gathered to capture them.

He said it is further alleged that during the robbery a man with a firearm walked towards the cashier and held him at gun-point while another two men took the cash.

Shortly after they walked out and escaped to Burns Creek settlement.

The armed robbery occurred on Saturday morning at about 7:45 am at the Capital Park in East Honiara.

Police appeal to chiefs, church leaders and the communities of Burns Creek to support Police with information on the where about of those involved in the arm robbery and to assist police with the investigation.
