2 MEN VOLUNTARILY SURRENDERED TO POLICE IN RELATION TO KILLING

Two North Malaita men have voluntarily surrendered to police in relation to the weekend killing at Kaibia Heights in Central Honiara.

The 34-year-old and his 38-year-old elder brother surrendered this morning. They are being charged with the murder of a young man, also from North Malaita.

His death sparked outrage and tension in the Kaibia community that spilled over into the burning down of three homes at Kaibia on Saturday night.

A police statement this afternoon says the suspects submitted to a voluntary surrender at the Central Police Station this morning following cultural dialogue from elders, Members of Parliaments and personal meetings.

They are now in custody pending further investigation.
