A new course introduced by the Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC) has started in Honiara.

A media statement from APTC said this is the first Solomon Islands based Certificate III training program introduced by the college.

Called the Australian Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, 16 students have already enrolled and commenced their classes at the YWCA training room in Honiara.

All 16 students are Kindergarten teachers approved by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and their employers.

The Early Childhood course is the minimum qualification for workers in Child Care centres, preschools and kindergartens internationally.

APTC is a development initiative funded by the Australian Government to deliver vocational training and to increase the supply of skilled workers in targeted sectors in the Pacific region.

APTC has campuses in Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
