The Voluntary Non-Remunerated Blood Donation Program in the country is threatened by lack of funding assistance.

Secretary General of the Solomon Islands’ Red Cross Society, Thomas Bebeu siad the continuation of the program depends very much on the availability of funds.

Mr Bebeu said, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services had last week, assured them, their concern was being taken on board, however, it does not imply the Ministry would fund the entire cost of the blood donation program given the huge cut on the Ministry’s operational budget this year.

“All I can say at this moment is that there was a response from the Ministry of health, to support this voluntary Non-Remunerated Blood Donation Program,” he said.

“Our last resort now is to wait upon the ministry of health , if anything comes from them then, whether it will be positive or negative, that is our last hope.”

He further stressed, unavailability of funds for this program will certainly aggravate the problem our sick patients are experiencing now.
