Government consultations on its proposed Free Economic Zone Bill began in Honiara today.

The Bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament this year.

A statement from the Government Communications Unit says outcomes from this consultation will form the basis of the bill’s draft.

A number of topics will be covered in today’s consultations including the inadequacies of the Foreign Direct Investment Strategies to attract high-quality investment in strategic sectors which were identified by Government.

The consultations will also review the Government’s investment strategies, and recognize current strengths to develop an effective strategy for Economic Growth Centres, Industrial Parks and Rural Growth Centres.

The consultations will be co-facilitated by officials from the Ministry of Commerce and other senior government officials.

SIBC News understands the Government will conduct similar consultations throughout the provinces.
