The Solomon Airlines has advised, its Dash 8 aircraft has been taken out of service temporarily from today.

A statement from the Airlines says this is part of a scheduled maintenance program.

General Manager Operations & Commercial, Gus Kraus says the maintenance program was part of a planned procedure, instigated while the carrier was waiting for the aircraft’s original engine to return from an overhaul facility in Canada.

Mr Kraus says this process requires taking the Dash 8 into the hanger where its current leased engine would be removed and replaced with the original one, a process that takes at least two days to complete.

He adds, the engine replacement procedure commenced after the Santa Cruz service returned to Honiara this afternoon.

The statement says the Dash 8 will hopefully be ready to resume full service this Friday.

Meanwhile, the Airline’s fleet of Twin Otters and Islanders will handle the Dash 8 load.

Mr Kraus says it is anticipated, the scheduled maintenance operation will not have too much impact on their valued customers.
