The confirmed number of deaths of the Marau boat tragedy last week now stands at five, with 11 still missing.

Deputy Director of the Solomon Islands Maritime Safety Administration (SIMSA) Jonah Mitau told SIBC the weekend search failed to locate any of the missing 11.

He said the chances of finding them alive were slim.

The dead were reportedly transported to their village, Uhu, Areare, Malaita Province yesterday while search efforts led by a Police Patrol boat were continuing today.

The boat left Uhu village, bound for Marau, East Guadalcanal last Wednesday but failed to reach its destination because of bad weather.
