FORMER NATIONAL BROADCASTER BOSS LAID TO REST

Former national broadcaster and former boss of the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation, Patterson Mae has been laid to rest at his home village in Central Province.

Late Patterson Mae passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning following a long illness.

He was buried yesterday in his home village, Leitongo in Ngella.

SIBC’s Programs Director, Bart Basia, who travelled with a SIBC delegation to attend his funeral service, described it as very ‘moving, simple and meaningful’.

Mr Basia also said, Patterson Mae built the careers of many broadcasters during his time with SIBC, and he was an important broadcasting figure, in both the Solomon Islands and the region.

“Of course not only was he involved in developing broadcasting in the country but also in the region because he joined the Pacific Islands Media Association’s executive as well as the Pacific Islands Broadcasting Association’s executive during the 90s. So Solomon Islands and SIBC has lost a person who has given energy, time and himself to the country’s broadcast industry”, said Mr Basia.

The late Patterson Mae is survived by his wife, Pepetua Mae, two sons, six daughters and a number of grandchildren.

He had served the National Broadcaster for 32 years.
