Concerned citizens group, Forum Solomon Islands International, FSII, applauds the government for its commitment to honour the scheme of service for specialised local doctors.

This week, government has signed an agreement with local specialised doctors’ one which paves the way for the government to honour its commitment to ensuring these doctors’ continue to serve here for the next four years.

FSII’s President Redley Raramo, applauds the government for taking the necessary step towards improving our local specialists’ working conditions.

He says FSII supports government’s initiative to improve our specialised doctors’ working conditions because this issue was brought up in the past during the tenure of past governments’ but nothing has been done about it.

The Lilo led government has done the right thing by revisiting and addressing the conditions of specialised doctors.

He adds, the exercise does not only address ‘brain- drain’ in our medical field, but also boost the morale of our highly qualified and experienced medical practitioners who will serve the people of Solomon Islands with due diligence and professionalism.

With the new scheme, Raramo urges other specialised doctors residing overseas to return home and serve the country.
