The National Government confirms, it is backing New Zealand’s candidature for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council.

Foreign Affairs and External Trade Minister, Hon.Clay Forau made this confirmation on behalf of the Government on the occasion marking the 174th Anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.

He said, New Zealand has demonstrated its commitment to supporting development in Solomon Islands, and it is a great pleasure that the Government backs New Zealand gain more recognition at the United Nations Security Council.

Minister Forau adds, as a tangible demonstration of Solomon Islands commitment to New Zealand, the country will soon be officially opening a High Commission in Wellington to be headed by Solomon Islands first female High Commissioner.
