The North Malaita region’s Agriculture Office has been called on to assess and assist a family whose food gardens have been buried by a landslide.

SIBC Stringer John Kiri reports, Jack Lathalo of Suidara Village returned to his village from Honiara over the weekend only to witness his family garden was destroyed by the natural phenomenon.

“To Mr. Jack’s wife’s surprise she said the landslide has chosen the middle of the garden, where lots of produce nearing harvest, like root crops well as fruit trees and vegetables were located, and have destroyed them all”.

John Kiri also reports Mr Lathalo wants authorities to assess the damages to his gardens.

“Mr. Jack calls on the Agriculture Field Officer for the Nothern region to go and assess the amount of damage caused in order to verify the landslide and as prove to his report whether it really happened as well as to bring a report up to the responsible authorities to ensure the next steps be taken, as his family’s life is at stake”.
