GP Officers Suspended for Alleged Misconduct in Office
Seven Guadalcanal Provincial Government officers within the Finance, Lands and Works department have been suspended from their official duties recently due to alleged misconduct.
Provincial Deputy Secretary Maesach Suia confirmed in an interview with SIBC News today.
Mr Suia said his office has received many complaints on business license payments and through follow ups, they suspended the officers.
“The public have raised a lot of complaints that paying for a business license here is very expensive and they have paid several times but have not received their license”.
“We were only made aware when we checked for the names of those who claimed to have paid but they were not even recorded in our system. We followed up on these complaints and suspended the officers in that department,” Mr Suia said.
He added other officers were suspended regarding development fees that some developers claimed to have paid but there were no records sighted by their office.
He said some of the developments were halted by the town and development board as the requirements were not met.
“When we approached the developers, they had development permits which should have not been given out without the approval of the Provincial Secretary who is the chairman of the development board of the provincial government,” he said.
The Deputy Provincial Secretary stated that the officers are suspended for two weeks while investigations are being carried out.
Meanwhile, Provincial Secretary Timothy Ngele has called on the public not to create rumors on social media and that they should consult their office should they have any questions regarding this issue.
