A concept paper on Road Transport Ordinance 2015 has been put together by the Chair of the Honiara City Council Law Enforcement Division and the Council’s Legal Advisor.

The concept paper which will be discussed at the Law Enforcement Standing Committee later this month, focuses on the transport services in the City.

Chair of the Standing Committee Charles Aiwosuga said this is also purposely to address the growing concerns and issues regarding the short bus routes and to have policies in place for transport services in the City.

Mr Aiwosuga says the idea of the concept paper is for the Council to have an ordinance for buses, taxis, and pick-up trucks to operate within the given law.

He says in the concept paper, no public transport is to run a distance less than 10 kilometers before any turning point, saying this is to address the issue of short bus routes.

Aiwosuga adds, those breaching the turning point limit will be charged.
