HEALTH IS MONITORING POSSIBLE ZIKA OUTBREAK: KAITU’U

The Minister of Health and Medical Services, Hon. Tautai Angikimua Kaitu’u has informed the country his Ministry is strictly monitoring any possible outbreak of Zika virus in Solomon Islands.

Minister Kaitu’u was responding to a question by the MP for Aoke Langalanga on the country’s preparedness for a possible attack of the Zika virus.

Mr. Kaitu’u informed parliament, his Ministry is well prepared to combat any Zika outbreak.

He says blood samples sent overseas for dengue, Zika and Chikungunya this year all returned negative.

“Mr. Speaker Sir, this year February we are monitoring the situation and we sent another lot of samples overseas, 34 samples and four dengue, zika and Chikungunya and they all cam back negative, so that’s a good news.”

The Health Minister advises people to practice hygiene to control the spread of viral diseases in the country.
