Rain in South Guadalcanal.

People living near hill slopes, close to rivers, streams and low-lying areas are sternly advised to take safety measures to avoid danger and loss of lives and property.

The Solomon Islands Meteorological Services warns in its latest Heavy Rain Warning today.

Enforced for most parts of the country, the Met Office says a trough of low pressure lying over the country is causing the current wet weather.

It adds, associate heavy rain is expected to affect most of parts of the country and that may lead to flash flooding and possible landslide over communities living near hill slopes, close to large rivers, streams and low-lying areas.

Motorists are also advised to use extreme caution when travelling on road and never attempt to cross rivers and large streams of unknown depths.
