Kurukuru leave the Solomons for Asia indoor games
The national futsal side ‘Kurukurus’ left the country yesterday to complete in the Asian indoor games in Turkmenistan.
The games kick off from Sunday to September 27.
Coach Jerry Sam told SIBC it was a good preparation for the squad for the upcoming Oceania futsal qualifiers in 2019, and for the 2020 world cup.
Although household names such as Micah Lea’alafa, Jack Whetney and Elliot Ragomo have missed the tour due to club commitments, coach Jerry said it was a good opportunity for the young players to impress.
“This is good for the future and the development of the young players who are coming in,” he said.
The national futsal side is drawn alongside host nation Turkmenistan, Chinese Taipei, Chinese Hong Kong and Vietnam
Kurukuru will be accompanying two other sports to the games – athletics and weightlifting.
