A group of local farmers at Bita’ama in North Malaita have reiterated their call on the authorities who promised to provide them with gardening tools to fulfill their promise.

SIBC’s North Malaita stringer, John Andrew Kiri reports the farmers have been waiting for the tools since last year, when officers from the United Nations Development Programme’s Climate Change Adaptation team visited them.

But he says till now nothing is forthcoming despite three visits from the UNDP Climate Change Adaptation team last year.

Mr Kiri adds, the group’s chairperson, Teddy Suiti has called on the UNDP Climate Change Adaptation programme officers to explain why it took so long to deliver the gardening tools.

“The group’s chairman, Mr Teddy Suiti calls on the UNDP Climate Change Adaptation Programme people to go down to them and explain why they have failed to comply with their promise of providing them with the gardening tools, because even now the farmers are still waiting. They want the seven officials who visited them previously to explain why they have failed their promise to the farmers here.”

SIBC News hopes to run a response from the UNDP Climate Change Adaptation Programme team separately.
