M.S.G POLICE COMMISSIONER’S CONFERENCE ENDS WELL
The Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Police Commissioner’s conference has ended successfully yesterday in Honiara, with Solomon Islands appointed as the next Chair for the next 12 months.
Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Commissioner, Frank Prendergast confirms the chairmanship in his weekly media conference today.
Mr Prendergast told local reporters Solomon Islands is the new Chair of the MSG Commissioner’s conference for the next 12 months, adding they have also discussed significant issues for the region.
“Just want people to be aware that Solomon Islands now takes on the Chairmanship of the Police Commissioner’s group over the next 12 months and yesterday we’ve discussed some significant issues for the region including MSG participation in UN Peacekeeping, also issues of regional significance such as emergency management, disaster management. We had some very good presentations from Vanuatu, for example on the response to cyclone Pam and the lessons learned.”
The Police Commissioner adds they have also discussed emerging issues such as Cyber Crime and Family Violence during the conference.
“We also discussed emerging issues such as Cyber Crime and we had a very good presentation from PNG on the emergence of cyber crime and some of the initiatives they’re taking and then the last issue is a new initiative for the MSG Police Commissioners around domestic violence/family violence and we’ll be doing some more work as a group this year in relation to combating that issue and I think it involves my thoughts on that issue so it’s a very important development.”
SIBC News understands delegates to the conference leave the country starting today.
