The main Matanikau Bridge will be closed tomorrow night to allow for repair works on damages caused by last month’s floods.

A statement from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development today said the “Upstream Ramp” will be removed at 7pm on Saturday during the repair process.

Deputy Director of the Transport Sector Development Unit, Jabin Laedola said the downstream ramp will remain open for limited passage only for police, medical and other emergency stakeholders.

The temporary closure will remain until Sunday depending on the completion of the repair works.

The Ministry is liaising with the Police Traffic Unit to ensure the bridge is “off limits” to all vehicles and pedestrians since heavy machines will be placed on the bridge and it is unsafe for movements on the bridge.

The Ministry is asking for public cooperation during this period.
