Man dies after suspect beat him with walking stick in Honiara

The National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested a suspect this morning (24 October 2022) in relation to an alleged murder incident at West Kola ridge in Honiara.

The incident occurred yesterday (23 October 2022) while the deceased and the suspect were drinking kwaso (homebrew) at the top of the Jacobs ladder at West Kola ridge area.

Director NCID, Superintendent Michael Bole said the deceased sent the suspect to fetch some water to mix their kwaso. The suspect returned with no water and this is where an argument hit up where the suspect beat the deceased.

Superintendent Bole said the suspect allegedly used a walking stick belonging to the disable person (deceased) and beat him three times and speared the deceased at the back of his neck causing him to be unconscious.

NCID Director Mr Bole said the deceased was transported to the National Referral Hospital and pronounced dead by the medical authorities. The body of the deceased is currently at the morgue and officers are working closely with medical authorities for a possible autopsy.

Mr. Bole said investigation into the matter is ongoing and police appeals to anyone around the area where the incident occurred to assist with information.

The NCID Director shared his condolence to the immediate family members for the loss of their loved one during this dark moment.
