A mob of people claiming to be acting in the interests of flood victims residing at the Panatina Campus Pavilion in East Honiara looted and burned down a commercial building at Ranadi last night.

Eyewitnesses say the mob started attacking at around 9pm last night – looting the Uncle Alick shop building just opposite King George National Secondary School and also stoned passing vehicles.

The mob also chopped down palm trees planted on the road islands within the vicinity of the attack.

The mob also staged illegal road blocks where they staged their attack.

Details on what triggered the mob to start the riot are still sketchy and the police have not made any official statement on the matter.

There are also no official reports of any arrests of any of the mob’s members.

SIBC News understands Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo met with the Executive of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force this morning regarding last night’s riot.
