The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is expecting another 197-thousand doses of measles vaccine to arrive in the country this week.

Incident Controller, Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Doctor Aaron Oritaimae reveals, the vaccines should arrive by Thursday.

He says with the arrival of more vaccines, the Ministry hopes to vaccinate the target population of more than 350,000,000 Solomon Islanders by the first week of October.

Meanwhile, the risk of deaths associated with the spread of measles across Solomon Islands is still very high.

Incident Controller, Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Doctor Aaron Oritaimae made the statement yesterday.

Dr Oritaimae therefore appeals to the general public to receive vaccinations available at their nearby clinics or hospitals.

“The risk of measles spreading over the whole of Solomon Islands is very high and the risk of more deaths is still very high. On behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministery of Health I’d like to urge people in Solomon Islands to increase your level of readiness to come forward and receive vaccines as soon as the supplies are available at your nearest clinics

Dr Oritaimae adds, the level of response will continue until satisfactory control is achieved.
