The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will soon open its new police station at the Malaita provincial capital, Auki.

Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast confirms.

On public concerns raised as to why there was no formal opening ceremony, Mr Prendergast says officers are beginning to shift office equipment and stuff into the new building to make sure everything is ready prior to the official opening.

“We’ve moved our offices into it, there will be a formal opening in the near future, but the reason we’ve moved our offices into it was one; before the formal opening make sure that everything is working and functioning correctly and two, because it was ready to occupy I didn’t want to leave it empty when it was ready to go, so it is a significant event, we want the opening to be done properly and that’s in the planning, but I didn’t see any points leaving the building unused in the mean time and I think it really improves the capacity of the police in Auki when you compare with the old accommodation, it’s a very good police station.”

SIBC News understands the newly built Auki police station will be officially opened three weeks from now.
