OVER 20 WOMEN CANDIDATES SET TO CONTEST NOVEMBER ELECTIONS

Over 20 women have been registered to contest the National General Elections next month.

Women in Leadership Desk Officer at the National Council of Women, Casper Fa’asala confirmed to SIBC News today, a total of 26 women paid their registration fees to date.

“I am happy to confirm to the people of Solomon Islands that as of today there are 26 women who will be contesting the Solomon Islands National General Election that we will expect to go to the polls on 19th November 2014.”

Meanwhile, the People’s Alliance Party is fielding a total of seven women amongst its party candidates.

Party President, Sir Nathaniel Waena announced the women candidates today.

“The female candidates are for Temotu Vatud, Mrs. Freda Tuki; Central Makira Ms. Evalyn Kahia; Central Guadalcanal, Mrs. Noelyn Biliki; Central Honiara, Mrs. Hilda Karri. For West South New Georgia Rendova Tetepare, Mrs. Joan Desi Maega’asia; North New Georgia Mrs. Maiden Delorose Matangani and for Simbo Ranonga we have Mrs. Mari Kwatomae.”

Nominations for candidates for the General Elections will close tomorrow.
