A partnership agreement between Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu airlines is now in force.

Solomon Airlines Commercial Services Manager Gus Kraus says the agreement is the realisation of several years of negotiations and will provide an alternative route into Asia for Melanesian travellers.

Kraus says under the agreement, a new route between Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu via Solomon Islands will be introduced.

This will see shared promotion and sales of the three Melanesia airlines and a code-share arrangement on a PNG-Vanuatu route via Solomon Islands.

Meanwhile, Mr Kraus adds, while he understands PNG is planning a campaign in Vanuatu next week to start the initiative with some business visitors from PNG joining in, PNG will probably try to visit Solomon Islands soon.

Gus Kraus explains, the partnership will hopefully expand to include other carriers from Fiji and New Caledonia.
