PIDF IN PRE-LEADERS SUMMIT & LEADERS SUMMIT PROPER
The Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) Leaders Summit will come in two forms – the Pre-Leaders Summit and Leaders Summit Proper.
Special Secretary to the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) and PIDF, Rence Sore confirms in a message to the public.
He says the Pre-Leaders Summit will take place tomorrow with the aim of enhancing high-level discussions with a view to maintaining momentum on the post COP 21 agenda.
He adds it is an avenue to share opportunities on accessing adaptation financing and drawing attention to the importance of oceans.
It provides an inclusive forum at which government leaders, the private sector, and civil society can formulate and exchange views on future directions and priorities of the PIDF.
Meanwhile, regional Heads of States and Governments and delegates attending the Summit will be accorded a Police Parade, a traditional Guadalcanal Chupu ritual and cultural entertainments depicting the diversity of Solomon Islands and the threat climate change has posed to some island communities in the country.
The Summit will be made of high-level panels and “toktok” sessions with one session on the value of Oceans and one special “talanoa” session for Leaders on Enhancing collaboration in achieving SDG 14 targets.
The statement adds it will also look into the governance of PIDF and on issues of concern to the Pacific region, discuss progress on the work of the PIDF and decide on major policy issues related to the future work of the organisation.
